Natália Alves holds a PhD in Educational Sciences, specializing in Sociology of Education, from the University of Lisbon, associate professor at the Institute of Education of the University of Lisbon, researcher at UIDEF - Research and Development Unit in Education and Training at the same institute and coordinator of the group research and teaching of Education and Training Policies. Among the research topics that has been giving priority in recent years, public education and training policies for young people and adults with little schooling stand out, namely with regard to transnational, national and local regulation modes, as well as their effects on academic and profesional trajectories of youth and adults.

What do we talk about when we talk about inclusion?

In recent times, inclusion became a category that invades transnational and national policy discourses. Simultaneously, inclusion turned out to be normative reference to the practices in all domains of social life. In this presentation we analyse the genealogy of inclusion category and critically reflect on the its hegemonic position both in the policy agenda and the social practices.
